Celebrate Archives Month!

Celebrate Archives Month with the Nevada State Archives
American Archives Month is a time to celebrate our shared history and raise awareness of historical records in our state. In 2026, Nevada Archives Month focuses on how sports connect Nevadans across geography and generations. Sports play an important role in our daily lives by promoting physical health, fostering teamwork, and encouraging fair play.

To commemorate American Archives Month, the Nevada State Archives is hosting an exhibit, “Beyond the Trophy Case: Sports in Nevada History.” The exhibit highlights athletes of all ages and abilities, as well the fans, families, and communities that supported them.

The exhibit is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) at the Nevada State Archives at 100 N. Stewart Street, Carson City, Nevada.

The State Archives is grateful to the organizations that loaned historical documents, photographs, and objects that bring sports history to life in the exhibit: Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum; University of Nevada, Reno Jon Bilbao Basque Library; University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries Special Collections & Archives; University of Nevada, Reno Libraries Special Collections & University Archives; Nevada Historical Society; Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City; and Nevada State Museum, Carson City/Marjorie Russell Textile Research Center.

The Nevada Archives Month exhibit, poster, and postcards were made possible through the support of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC).
