Few people realize the rich and diverse musical heritage of Missouri.”
— Todd Mosby
ST LOUIS, MO, UNITED STATES, April 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- How does one capture the spirit of a place in music? For Missouri-born musician Todd Mosby, it required 3 years of composing and recording in diverse genres including contemporary jazz and folk, New Age, solo acoustic guitar, blues and jazz-rock. Today, Mosby Music Group releases American Heartland, a 12-track collection that takes an Impressionistic approach to capturing a strong sense of place. Recorded primarily at The Village Studios and mastered at Bernie Grundman Studios, no expense was spared in creating American Heartland as a digital and physical media experience. It is available now for streaming, downloads, and as an illustrative 8-panel CD with a 16-page booklet of poetry, images, lyrics and behind the scenes stories about the music.

"Artfully fusing the acoustic guitar driven new age vibe that brought him to national prominence with intricately produced dynamics-filled jazz electric guitar fired sessions featuring legendary L.A. musicians, Mosby’s latest work American Heartland offers an expansive musical and thematic landscape sharing memories, homages and impressions of the nearest and dearest place in his heart – his home state of Missouri," writes jazz journalist Jonathan Widran.

On American Heartland, Mosby again works with two-time GRAMMY-winning producer Jeffrey Weber, associate producer and score supervisor Michael Clark, and top-shelf musicians Vinnie Colaiuta, Tom Scott, Leland Sklar, Luis Conte, Michael Manring, Dapo Torimiro, Nick Lane, Lola Kristine, Laura Vall, Dan Fornero, Judy Kang, John Dickson, and Bruce Carver, among others. It was August 2025 when Mosby drove his Jeep full of gear and three select guitars from St. Louis to Los Angeles where the artists gathered at The Village Studios for a week that felt like both a family reunion and the ultimate recording session.

The result? Lush orchestration, sultry female vocalise, driving horn sections, stately strings, percussive jams and melodic guitar creating a live jam vibe throughout the album, countered-balanced by carefully-selected covers, and Mosby's solo guitar musings. Every piece evokes a different aspect of the spirit of Missouri. The rolling hills, the golden fields, the star-filled skies, the lush greens, the sound of distant thunder storms, and the breathtaking sunrise over the Ozarks. American Heartland echoes the efforts of French impressionists who sought to elevate everyday moments with artistic renderings of sprawling landscapes. In this year of America250, Mosby has done his part to pay tribute to his home state's place in history.

"Few people realize the rich and diverse musical heritage of Missouri," says Mosby, who grew up on a working farm. Bluegrass flows from the Ozark Mountains. Blues drifts in along the Mississippi River. Rock ‘n’ roll is part of the state’s DNA—after all, Missouri is the birthplace of Chuck Berry, the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Jazz legends like Charlie Parker, Lester Young, and Pat Metheny are native sons. The “Show-Me State” has a lot to say for its musical legacy.

Mosby's challenge was to synthesize the show-me sounds of Missouri into his own genre-defying, evocative language blending jazz, folk, new age, country, blues, and even samba, to create a richly-textured geotemporal soundscape. Sophisticated yet accessible, he leans into the tradition of artists like Steely Dan, Wes Montgomery, James Taylor, and Joni Mitchell. His compositions feature compelling melodic structures and complex instrumental passages that appeal to both seasoned musicians and casual listeners alike.

The production of American Heartland was a thoughtful collaboration across some of the industry’s most respected studios and engineers. Recording and mixing were led by Clark Germain, with the album mixed at WonderWorld Studio in Hollywood, California, and additional support from assistant engineer Nicole Schmidt of Village Studios. Additional recording sessions took place at Shock City Studios in St. Louis, Missouri, engineered by Sam Swaine, while select solo acoustic guitar tracks were mixed by Tom Eaton at Sounds & Substance in East Kingston, New Hampshire. The project was mastered by renowned engineer Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Los Angeles, ensuring a polished and dynamic final sound. Visual elements were equally considered, with photography by Andrew Matusik and art direction and design by Allie Oliver-Barnes, completing a production that is as cohesive visually as it is sonically.

The album’s first single "Palomino" was released on February 20th, garnering thousands of spins in the first week as a sneak peak to the emotionally moving ode to Missouri. Music writer Robin B. James described “Palomino” as, “a samba piece that lingers, offering replay value for listeners drawn to expressive and meaningful instrumental music. The composition takes off at a gallop, with a memorable melody and dynamic akin to the beloved 'Take Five.'”
